ABOUT JULIE

in 2015, I took 14 pills of ciprofloxacin, a fluoroquinolone antibiotic with dangerous side effects that damaged my nervous system and took away my ability to walk. I spent 4 years in a wheelchair, uncertain of my future.

2015

I am a healthy, 25 year old young woman. One weekend, I take ciprofloxacin to treat a UTI. 2 weeks later, while doing some yoga movements, my legs cramp suddenly in excruciating pain. I can’t walk anymore. I spend 2 weeks at the hospital. I suffer from hallucinations, cognitive impairments, extreme leg weakness which makes walking very difficult.

2015 - 2017

Doctors tell me my symptoms are in my head, so I spend 2 years visiting a psychology center. My health doesn’t improve.I continue looking for answers.

2017 - 2018

I am diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS, also called ME) in Amsterdam. Doctors have no idea where it comes from. I continue my search for a treatment and end up in Belgium where they diagnose me with chronic lyme disease. I start an antibiotic treatment with steroids.

2018

My health deteriorates at a rapid rate. I am at my worst, incapable to tolerate any stimulus, unable to walk, unable to shower, unable to brush my own teeth.

2018 - 2020

I make the choice to stop my treatment and to let my body heal naturally, without anymore chemicals. I come across Medical Medium and Dr Robert Morse and I follow their protocols based on a detoxifying and regenerative plant based diet. I start meditating too. My health improves.

2020 - 2021

I have made big progress and I no longer need a wheelchair. I can walk small distances without tiring and use my brain again.

Following a follow up lyme consultation with a French naturopath, I finally have the answer i had been looking for: I discover that I never had lyme disease. What plagued me for all these years was fluoroquinolone poisoning from ciprofloxacin I had taken in 2015.

Fluoroquinolones are a class of antibiotics that contain fluorine atoms that penetrate tissues to boost their effectiveness. Ciprofloxacin belongs to this family of antibiotics. It damaged my nervous system and left me in a wheelchair for 4 years.

The hardest part was not knowing what was wrong with my body, and being let down by doctors and people around me. It’s in these moments that you find a strength in you that you didn’t know existed.

You find the real you, your real friends, and you realize that this experience could very well be a blessing in the end for all the life lessons it’s teaching you.

I am now 70% recovered. I can walk small distances again, and I plan to make a full recovery in the coming years.

Tim and I learned a lot from this experience. We even created an app from it to help people heal. It made us stronger, better people. We don’t take anything for granted and try to enjoy the smallest things in life for we know that they really are the biggest things.
